Metal Na Lata: Explique a evolução musical do Belphegor desde “The Last Supper” até o disco “Conjuring The Dead”.
Helmuth: Cara, nós gravamos esse disco em duas semanas e meia, incluindo sua mixagem e masterização, se me lembro bem, no estúdio do Andy Classen (Stage One) em Kassel. A meta era ser o mais blasfemo e mais alto possível, com o conteúdo bastante ofensivo nas letras e arte ofensiva também, para ofender o máximo de pessoas possíveis, especialmente a máfia católica. Acho que fizemos um ótimo trabalho. É um forte álbum de Death/Black Metal, onde não havia nenhuma banda do gênero que fizesse uma simbiose de Death e Black Metal nesse tempo. Do Necrodaemon Terrorsathan(2000) em diante nós mudamos tudo e levamos mais a sério, especialmente a musicalidade, e tentamos entrar em um novo nível de extremismo, onde achamos que foi bem sucedido com Lucifer Incestus(2003) e formou nossa marca musical que nos tornou conhecidos até os dias de hoje. O objetivo principal se tornou e ainda se mantém em criar e se manter em níveis de intensidade e dinâmica. Eis o que nos permite ainda fazer e sermos os melhores após 24 anos. Estamos mais efetivos e precisos do que nunca em aproveitamento do nosso ofício. É desafiador no senso de exigir o melhor de si mesmo no auge do seu desafio. Estamos desenfreados. Vocês escutarão tudo isso no novo disco ainda não intitulado que será lançado em meados de setembro de 2017. Não somente isso, nós somos atualmente uma das “pontas das lanças” da música extrema de atualmente, possuindo um dos melhores line-up da banda até agora, sendo um arranjo explosivo do brutal e obscuro Death/Black Metal.
Metal Na Lata: Como foi a experiência de ter Erik Rutan como produtor de “Conjuring The Dead”?
Helmuth: Foi realmente inspirador. Ele é um grande cara ,e de outro mundo, cheio de idéias e dicas. Erik Rutan fez um grande trabalho e sempre foi pra mim um sonho de gravar um álbum inteiro do Belphegor na América do Norte. Conseguimos !!! Dessa vez nós gravamos o disco na Europa e nós teremos a sua mixagem e masterização na América do Norte. Não trabalhamos com Erik Rutan desta vez porque nós estamos sempre procurando por novos desafios. Mudamos as coisas, assim como os produtores para manter a chama viva em cada novo projeto que iniciarmos. Em breve anunciaremos o título do novo disco , como também do seu produtor. Haverão trailers de estúdio e por aí em diante. Depois da turnê na América Latina eu retornarei pro estúdio para encerrar os vocais e as guitarras base, tudo que ainda falta por ora. Mal podemos esperar para “soltar a besta”.
Metal Na Lata: O Belphegor procura fazer shows bastante visuais e com peso de sobra. Vocês pretendem elevar o nível de brutalidade no palco cada vez mais?
Helmuth: Isso é verdade. Um show do Belphegor hoje em dia é mais uma cerimônia do que um show mediano de Metal. Procuramos oferecer para aqueles que buscam um ritual do Belphegor algo intenso, algo fora dos padrões e que deixe uma impressão, seja ela qual for. Não importa se eles adoram ou se ofendem, não é essa a intenção. Quero dizer, para nós o que é realmente apreciado é que os demônios estejam eufóricos e estejam numa linha enérgica e maníaca num ritual e que glorifiquem o Death/Black Metal junto conosco. É nessas horas que você sente a energia no ar que é transferida diretamente entre a plateia e a banda. Neste sentido, é como se a banda e a plateia fossem transportados para algo como uma outra dimensão, como também se passassem por uma experiência ritual.
Metal Na Lata: No álbum “Lucifer Incestus” vocês fizeram bastante referência da igreja cristã com orgias e bestialidade desenfreada. Futuramente vocês pretendem retomar o tema com muito mais blasfêmia envolvida?
Helmuth: Cada álbum têm sua própria história e momentos. Sim, foi mais do que sensacional gravar este álbum. De longe foi um dos mais rápidos e agressivos discos, com agressivas letras blasfêmas e sempre será. Recebemos diversas reclamações e perturbações dos “mentes inferiores” e esquisitões como resultado. É sempre bom zoar os “cordeirinhos”. O problema é que não gostamos de repetir e atualmente estamos mais brutais e pesados, musicalmente melhores e nossos arranjos estão mais arrebatadores e cheios de temáticas obscuras. É o desenvolvimento simbiótico lógico do nosso Death/Black Metal e é claro nós sempre usamos nossa marca registrada sonora que nos vêm naturalmente e nos leva a outro nível de som extremo.
Metal Na Lata: A respeito do desagradável incidente na Rússia com o grupo de fanáticos religiosos, o que você poderia nos dizer a respeito?
Helmuth: Deixei para trás e bem longe de mim. Dez anos atrás eu teria matado aquele gordo idiota e fraco, ou se tivesse acontecido em lugar neutro ou na minha terra natal. Hoje em dia estou maduro e mais sábio. Estava nos meus planos tocar na Rússia e não brigar e parar numa cela por se meter em encrencas com a polícia e afins. Isso é o que acontece por tocar ou mexer com alguém em um aeroporto internacional e isso é o porque dessas pessoas me filmarem ao me provocarem. Esses degenerados não mudaram em nada nesse tipo de atitude. Vamos torcer para que lixos como aqueles nunca cheguem ao poder ou se tornem poderosos, ou a arte em geral será cada vez mais suprimida e censurada do que já é e livros, música e afins serão proibidos ou queimados novamente. Liberdade de expressão, principalmente artística, deve ser garantida.
Metal Na Lata: E planos para um dvd ao vivo? Pretendem lançar algum em breve?
Helmuth: Na verdade não, verdade seja dita. É muito trabalhoso e nós deveríamos investir muito mais tempo sabe?! Estamos sempre em turnê por todo o mundo. É melhor as pessoas comparecerem aos nossos rituais bizarros. Não se pode capturar nossa real atmosfera , o fedor, o suor, o “feeling” com um dvd ao vivo, entende ?! Mas veremos. Em setembro lançaremos nossa nova oferenda. Talvez incluiremos um dvd com bônus na edição digipack. O tempo dirá.
Metal Na Lata: O que podemos esperar do novo álbum e o que o difere dos outros já lançados?
Helmuth: Eu não gosto de comparar os álbuns. Só posso dizer que o meu melhor trabalho de guitarra e mais pesado e com guitarras realmente sintonizadas, no qual é algo totalmente desafiador para a “tropa”. O baixo está devastador e a bateria está “metralhante” como o inferno. Nos praticamos muito individualmente para melhorarmos como músicos , assim como banda. Vocês escutarão isso no novo “monstro” em setembro. Música ou arte ,no geral, deve sempre causar excitação e não te acalmar, o que esse trabalho lhes trará e incrementará é a máxima euforia. Esperem o primeiro single e material em vídeo em meados de agosto. Nas próximas semanas e meses nós iremos lançar um monte de material de estúdio, making of, produtor, arte da capa, etc. Só ficar de olho em nós. Estamos muito felizes de finalmente lançar esse monstro para as massas.
Metal Na Lata: E a expectativa de tocarem no Brasil novamente?! Vocês gostam da cena extrema brasileira? Quais bandas nacionais vocês admiram bastante?
Helmuth: É sempre um prazer em detonar e fazer turnê no Brasil. Nós excursionamos aqui pelo menos umas cinco vezes e temos muitos amigos por aí. Digo que a América Latina é um excelente lugar para o Metal Extremo. Tivemos muitas experiências por aí quando excursionamos. Nós curtimos, digo AMAMOS churrasco (risos). Na minha opinião, vocês oferecem a melhor carne de todo o mundo. Como sempre o Sarcófago e Sepultura (com o Max) devemos mencionar uma consistência brutal com nossos irmãos do Krisiun, Nervosa, NervoChaos (Salve Eduardo!) e Rebaelliun lá atrás que era tão bom – banda tão boa mas que desistiu tão cedo.
Metal Na Lata: Muito obrigado pela entrevista! Poderiam deixar uma mensagem para os fãs brasileiros?
Helmuth: Obrigado pelo suporte. Eu também gostaria de saudar a leal horda metálica que escuta os nossos discos, compra os produtos e vai aos shows e a todos que comparecem aos rituais ao vivo do Belphegor. Nos vemos todos na estrada para o Inferno em breve. O Inferno aguarda…

Metal Na Lata: Explain to us the Belphegor’s musical evolution from “the Last Supper” until “Conjuring The Dead”.
Helmuth: THE LAST SUPPER, man we tracked that LP in 2.5 weeks incl mix/ mastering in 1994 if I recall correctly, at Andy Classen’s Stage One Studios in Kassel. The goal was to be as blasphemous and as loud as possible, with offensive lyrical content and offending artwork, to mock as many people as possible, esp the catholic mob. Guess we did a good job. It’s a strong Death/ Black Metal album, there wasn’t any band around that kinda made a symbiose of Black and Death Metal at this time. From the NECRODAEMON TERRORSATHAN LP forward [2000] we changed and took everything more seriously, especially the musicianship,..and tried to enter a new level of extremity, which we think we were successful with especially regarding LUCIFER INCESTUS and formed our own trademark sound we are nowadays known for. The main goal has since then been and remains to develop, to increase the level of intensity and dynamics. That’s what we are still doing and we’re at our best after 24 years. We’re more effective and precise than ever in harnessing our craft. It’s challenging in the sense of demanding the best out of you to be at the top of your game. We are on fire. You will hear all of this on the new yet untitled LP that will be released mid September 2017. Not only that, we are nowadays one of the spearheads of extreme Musick, and have the best line up in the band to date, it’s an explosive arrangement of brutal, obscure Death/ Black Metal.
Metal Na Lata: How was the experience of working with Erik Rutan as producer of “Conjuring The Dead”?
Helmuth: It was really inspiring. He’s a great, down to earth guy with lots of good ideas and tips. Erik Rutan did a great job and it had always been a dream for me to get to track a full BELPHEGOR LP in North America. We did it!! This time we track the LP in Europe and we shall have it mixed and mastered in North America. We dont work with Erik this time,because we are always searching for new challenges. We change things up, also producers so we keep the fire burning, with each new project we start. Soon we will anounce the title of the new LP as well as the producer. There will be studio trailers and so forth. After the Latin raid I’m going back into the studio to finish the vokills and the lead guitars, everything that is still missing at this point. We can’t wait to unleash this beast.
Metal Na Lata: Belphegor always seek make concerts with visuals and brutality on the stage. Do you guys intend to keep doing it on stage harder and heavier?
Helmuth: That is true. A BELPHEGOR concert nowadays is more a Ceremony than an average Metal Show. We seek to offer the people that attend a BELPHEGOR Ritual something intense, bizarre and something outstanding and leaves an impression, whatever it is. Doesn’t matter if they adore it or get offended, that isn’t the point. I mean, for us the sure thing is it is highly appreciated if the demons get energetic and worked up into a maniacal state, during a Ritual and glorify Death/ Black Metal with us. This is when you feel the sparks in the air, the transfer of this frantic energy between the band and the audience. In this sense, both the band and the audience are transported to something like another dimension so very much a ritual experience.
Metal Na Lata: In “Lucifer Incestus” you did a lot of references of orgies in the catholic church and heavy bestiality. Do you guys intend to resume the theme with so much more blasphemy somewhere in the future?
Helmuth: Each album has its own story and moments.Yeah, it was beyond amazing to create and record this album. This is one of the fastest and uttermost aggressive LP´s, with offensive blasphemical lyrical content and always will be. We caught a lot of grief and annoyances from moralizers and double standard minded weirdos as a result. Its alaways great to mock the holy sheep. Thing is, we don’t ever repeat ourselves, nowadays we are way more brutal and heavy, way better musicians and our arrangements are still blasting and full of obscure themes and topics. It’s a logical developement of our Death/ Black Metal symbiose and of course we always include our trademark sounds which come naturally to us and bring all on the next level of extreme sounds.
Metal Na Lata: About the unpleasant episode in Russia with the religious fanatics, what could you tell us about what happened?
Helmuth: It’s in the past and far behind me. 10 years ago I would have killed this fat; weak idiot, or if it had happened on neutral ground like in my hometown. Nowadays im grown up and a little wiser. It was my plan to play shows in Russia and not to fight or land in jail over there and get in a lot of trouble with police and all. That’s what happens if you touch or fight anyone in an international airport, that’s why these people filmed it to provoke me to hit them. Degenerated people, they didnt change anything with this sneaky action. Let’s hope trash like that never get might or power, or ART in general will be more suppressed and censored than it already is and books/ musick etc will forbidden or burnt again. Freedom of speech especially in Art must be guranteed.
Metal Na Lata: About a live dvd, do you guys wish to release one anytime soon?
Helmuth: Not really, truth be told. It’s a lot of work and we would need invest so much time you know. We tour all the time throughout the whole world. It’s better people attend our bizarre Rituals. You can’t capture our live atmosphere, the stench, the sweat, the feeling on a Dvd you know. But we will see. Mid September we release our new offering. Maybe we will include a bonus Dvd again which would come with the digipak edition. Time will tell.
Metal Na Lata: What can we expect about the new album and what differs it from the others?
Helmuth: I don’t like to compare LP´s. I just can say this is by far my tightest and most aggressive guitar work, with really down tuned guitars which is also a new challenge for the troop. The bass is devastating and the drums blasting like hell. We all practiced a lot to get better as individual instrumentalists and as a band. You will hear it on the new monster in September. Musick or let’s call it Art in general must excite, incite and provoke, not calm you down and this release shall achieve that to the utmost! Expect the first single and video footage in August. In the coming weeks/ months we will release a lot of footage from the studio, making of and announce title, producer, coverartist etc. So keep any eye on our formats. We are greatly anticipating when we finally can release this monster upon the masses.
Metal Na Lata: About the expectation of playing again in Brazil, are you guys excited? Do you like the brazilian scene ? Wish bands from Brazil do you like most?
Helmuth: Its always a pleasure to shred and tour Brazil, we toured there at least five times if i recall correctly and have lotsa friends ov there. I mean Latin America in general is a great place for extreme Metal. Many experiences when I think back on tours we did over there. We dig, no we love churrasco haharrr. In my opinion you guys offer the best meat worldwide. Anyways, of course SARCOFAGO, SEPULTURA fronted by Max and I must mention brutal consistant Death Metal outfit KRISIUN our Metal brothers. NERVOSA, NERVE CHAOS [Hail Mr. Eduardo..] and REBAELLIUN back then was a great – underrated troop, unfort they quit way to early.
